Prices on UK adult phone lines vary a lot, and the way they're billed confuses plenty of people. Here's a plain-English guide.
Two parts to every call
Calls to UK 09 numbers are made up of two charges:
- The service charge. This is the price per minute set by the service, and it's the figure shown next to every number on this site: 65p per minute.
- The access charge. This is set by your own phone company and goes to them, not to us. It varies by provider and tariff, so check yours.
So a call to our 65p line costs 65p a minute plus whatever your provider charges for access.
Why do prices differ between lines?
Different lines are run at different price points. Cheaper lines are good for longer, relaxed chats. Higher priced lines often have more women available or a more specialist focus. Whichever you call, the price is read out at the start of the call before you're connected.
How long is a typical call?
It depends entirely on you. Some callers want a quick five-minute chat, others stay on for much longer. Because you pay by the minute, it's worth deciding roughly how long you'd like to spend before you dial.
Tips for keeping the cost down
- Dial the specific line you want rather than going through a menu.
- Check your provider's access charge, as it can make a real difference.
- Set yourself a time limit before you call.
Can I block 09 numbers?
Yes. Most UK networks will bar premium rate numbers on request, often free. Some mobile contracts block them by default. Contact your provider if you want a bar added or removed.
Who regulates premium rate phone lines?
Premium rate services in the UK are regulated by Ofcom, which sets rules on pricing information, age checks and how services are promoted.
